The GP Profile typically uses a primary sealing lip supported by a garter spring together with an auxiliary dust lip. The main lip maintains controlled radial contact with the rotating shaft to retain oil or grease, while the secondary lip helps reduce the entry of dust, dirt, moisture, and other contaminants.

Its rubber-covered reinforced outer diameter supports static sealing between the oil seal and housing bore. This construction can also help accommodate minor housing-surface irregularities while providing a secure press fit.
